Plain language summary – More summer sunshine increases Greenland ice melt

A plain language summary is now available of the recent paper in Science Advances (‘Decreasing cloud cover drives the recent mass loss on the Greenland Ice Sheet‘) by GlobalMass team members Stefan Hofer, Jonathan Bamber and others.

A key conclusion of the work was that increased melting of the Greenland Ice Sheet since the mid-1990s was found to be closely linked to reduced summer cloud cover.

The plain language summary is intended to explain the method and key results in a less technical way that minimises jargon, with the aim of making it accessible to a wider audience. We plan to produce similar summaries for as many of our papers as possible that are published during the project.
